We are a family of backpackers, hunters, modern homesteaders, and adventurers. Over time, we realized that carrying heavy loads on our backs wasn’t sustainable—especially as we got older. When we started venturing into the backcountry with our children, we saw the need for a reliable pack animal to share the load. That’s when we discovered llamas.
As we researched, we quickly learned that not all llamas are created equal. The Ccara llama, specifically bred for packing, stood out as the perfect companion. With their sure footing, strength, and ability to carry weight, they make ideal backcountry partners. They’re easy to handle, kid-friendly, calm, curious, and gentle on the land—all while requiring far less maintenance than traditional pack animals. After countless conversations and extensive research, we purchased our first llamas, setting us on a path that led to the creation of Happy Homestead Llamas. Today, we share our well-trained llamas with others who seek adventure without the burden of a heavy pack, those seeking high quality pet llamas, and occasionally offer guard llamas for sale. Our llamas come from top breeders across the U.S., carefully selected for their genetics and proven packing abilities, demeanor, intelligence. Our breeding program is growing intentionally, producing a select few llamas each year to offer high-quality pack llamas for sale, pet quality llamas, guard llamas and to replenish our aging pack string. Today, Happy Homestead Llamas is focused on producing and placing exceptional llamas with the right people. -We believe conformation matters. Demeanor and Intelligence matters more. And ultimately, a llama has to do the work. -Every llama we choose to keep, breed, develop, or offer for sale is evaluated against the standards we expect from our own animals. -Our goal isn't to produce the most llamas. It's to produce llamas we are proud to put our name behind—and to help each owner find the llama that is right for them. -Each llama we produce is exceptionally trained and evaluated using the Happy Homestead method. We know each llama intently and label them based on evaluations as upcoming packers, pet quality, or suited as guard llamas. |
