About us :
We are a family of backpackers, hunters, modern homesteaders, and adventurers. Over time, we realized that carrying heavy loads on our backs wasn’t sustainable—especially as we got older. When we started venturing into the backcountry with our children, we saw the need for a reliable pack animal to share the load. That’s when we discovered llamas.
As we researched, we quickly learned that not all llamas are created equal. The Ccara llama, specifically bred for packing, stood out as the perfect companion. With their sure footing, strength, and ability to carry weight, they make ideal backcountry partners. They’re easy to handle, kid-friendly, calm, curious, and gentle on the land—all while requiring far less maintenance than traditional pack animals. After countless conversations and extensive research, we purchased our first llamas, setting us on a path that led to the creation of Happy Homestead Llamas. Today, we share our well-trained llamas with others who seek adventure without the burden of a heavy pack. Our llamas come from top breeders across the U.S., carefully selected for their genetics and proven packing abilities. We also have a few lesser-known packers who have excelled on the trail. Our breeding program is growing intentionally, producing a select few llamas each year to replenish our aging pack string and offer high-quality pack llamas for sale. Centrally located in Northern California, Happy Homestead Llamas is just a few hours from some of the best wilderness destinations—whether it’s the John Muir Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, or Emigrant Wilderness to the southeast, or the Trinity Alps and Marble Mountain Wilderness to the north. We offer: ✅ Llama Rentals – Well-trained pack llamas for your next adventure ✅ Llama Sales – Carefully bred and trained Ccara pack llamas ✅ Llama Walks – Unforgettable experiences on the trail with our llamas Let us help you explore the backcountry with ease—because the best adventures shouldn’t be weighed down by a heavy pack!
