About us :
We are a family of backpackers, hunters, modern homesteaders, and adventurers. Over the years, we realized that carrying heavy loads on our backs as we age simply wasn’t sustainable. As we ventured with our children, we recognized the need for an animal to help carry the weight. That’s when llamas became the perfect solution. The more we learned, the more we discovered the variety of llamas out there, and it quickly became clear that the Ccara llama was specifically bred to carry heavy loads. They offer sure footing, can handle the weight, are easy to manage, friendly with kids, calm, curious, and gentle on the trails. Plus, they require far less maintenance than other equines in the wilderness.
After many conversations and extensive research, we decided to purchase our first llamas. This journey eventually led to the creation of Happy Homestead Llamas, where we share our llamas with others. Our llamas come from top breeders across the U.S., with excellent genetics and packing backgrounds. We also have a few lesser-known packers who have proven themselves on the trails. Our breeding program is growing slowly but steadily with the goal of producing a select few llamas each year to replenish our aging packers and for pack llama sales. Happy Homestead Llamas is centrally located to many incredible adventures—whether it’s the John Muir Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, or Emigrant Wilderness to the southeast, or the stunning Trinity Alps and Marble Mountain Wilderness to the north—all just a few hours away. We offer Llama Rentals, Llama Sales, Llama Day Hikes. Happy Homestead Llama is USFS permitted and an equal opportunity service provider and employer. |
